Getting started and FAQ
This plugin integrates NLTP machine translation engines directly into your existing Trados Studio environment. This allows you to leverage advanced machine translation suggestions as you translate your projects.
Here's the key thing to know:
- You'll receive real-time machine translation suggestions for each segment as you work in Trados Studio.
- You have the flexibility to either translate segment by segment or pre-translate the entire project for faster initial results.
The plugin supports 2021, 2022, and 2024 versions of Trados Studio.
Quick start guide
- Download and install the plugin. Follow the installation instructions provided after downloading the plugin.
- Connect the plugin to your translation project in Trados Studio. This usually involves entering your API key or configuring connection settings within the Trados Studio project settings.
- Translate the document segment-by-segment. As you move through the document, translation suggestions from the NLTP engine will appear in the editor view for each segment. You can accept, edit, or reject these suggestions.
- Or pre-translate the whole project and post-edit the translations. For a faster initial draft, you can pre-translate the entire project using the NLTP engine and then review and edit the translations.
- Use glossaries to improve the machine translation accuracy. Ensure your project glossaries are active; the plugin will leverage them to provide more accurate suggestions for terminology.

Translation Workflow
What is pre-translation?
Pre-translation is the process of automatically filling your entire document with translations generated by the machine translation engine before you begin manual review and editing. This can significantly speed up the initial stages of translation.
How can I make pre-translation faster?
The speed of pre-translation depends on factors like the load on the translation engine and the length of your text. For very large documents, consider dividing them into smaller files or avoid running pre-translation on multiple large projects simultaneously to potentially see partial results more quickly.
I forgot to enable pre-translate while creating the project. How can I pre-translate now?
To pre-translate a document from the Editor view:
- In the top toolbar, open the Batch Tasks menu.
- Click Pre-translate Files.
- In the Batch Processing window, click Next.
- Find Pre-translate files.
- Under When no match found, select Apply automatic translation.
- Click Finish.
How do I edit a machine translation suggestion?
When a machine translation suggestion appears in the Trados Studio editor, you can simply click on the target segment and make any necessary corrections or refinements. Your edits will override the suggested translation.
Can I use my existing Trados Studio translation memories (TMs) alongside the plugin?
Yes, the plugin works within the Trados Studio environment, allowing you to leverage your existing translation memories as usual. The machine translation suggestions from the plugin will be offered in addition to any matches found in your TMs.
